Global Demand for Backup Generators Surges Amid Rising Power Outages

Recent reports show that demand for backup generators is growing dramatically around the world, driven by extreme weather events and an aging power grid. Sales of industrial and residential generators are up 45% from last year, according to Market Research Group (MRG).

Companies such as Cummins, Generac and Caterpillar have increased production to meet the surge in orders. In areas prone to hurricanes and wildfires, such as the U.S. Gulf Coast and Australia, homes and businesses are investing in high-capacity diesel and solar hybrid generators to ensure uninterrupted power.

“Frequent power outages have made backup power systems a necessity, not a luxury,” said Mark Reynolds, CEO of a large generator distributor.
